Bringing your dog to your wedding isn’t just a sweet idea – it’s the most genuine way to say, “our family is complete only with him/her.”
Anyone who truly loves their dog knows that leaving them at home on such a special day would feel like forgetting a piece of their heart.
And yet, between emotions, dresses, and last-minute surprises, it’s easy to overlook a few details when planning a wedding with your dog.
That’s why I’ve gathered the 10 golden rules to enjoy your day peacefully, with your furry friend right by your side.
The 10 Golden Tips for a Dog-Friendly Wedding
1. Choose a truly dog-friendly venue
Many venues claim to be pet-friendly, but only a few are truly suitable. Always check if dogs are welcome in all areas, if there are shaded spots and fresh water available, and whether the staff is comfortable around pets. A small precaution early on can prevent a lot of stress during the celebration.
2. Consider your dog’s personality first
Not all dogs love loud noises, music, or applause.
You know your dog better than anyone: if they’re shy or easily overwhelmed, give them a calmer role or let them join only during the quieter moments. Everyone’s happiness depends on their comfort, too.3. Involve them safely
Your dog can carry the rings, walk down the aisle with the groom, or simply be there for the photos. Whatever role you choose, make sure it doesn’t involve too many stimuli or fast movements — and check that the ground isn’t slippery or too hot for their paws.

4. Arrange a dedicated helper (Wedding Dog Chaperone)
On your wedding day, emotions will run high. Having a trusted person — a dog sitter, a friend, or a wedding dog chaperone — who can take care of your pup allows you to enjoy every moment without worry. They’ll be your dog’s reference point while you’re at the altar.
5. Dress them up — with comfort in mind
A wedding outfit for dogs should be comfortable, lightweight, and breathable. Avoid designs that are too tight or heavy, especially in summer. Choose natural fabrics and tailored details that don’t restrict movement. Remember: elegance is comfort.

Let your dog wear their accessory a few days in advance, for a few minutes at a time. Offer treats, cuddles, and make it playful. This way, they’ll associate their wedding outfit with something positive. And if it gets dirty? Don’t worry — it’s easy to clean.
7. Respect their pace
During the ceremony, photos, or reception, always give your dog the chance to rest, drink, and relax in a quiet area. Weddings last for hours, and your dog doesn’t understand why everyone’s cheering! Small breaks throughout the day will prevent stress and fatigue.

8. Prepare a complete emergency kit
All you need for a perfect wedding dog emergency kit are a foldable bowl, water, wipes, favorite snacks, a small towel, waste bags, and maybe a natural deodorizing spray for last-minute touch-ups. You’ll thank yourself later for thinking ahead.
9. Brief your guests
Not everyone is used to being around dogs. Let your photographer, children, and guests know in advance how to approach them. Affection is lovely — but in moderation. A little awareness keeps everyone calm and comfortable. Ask clearly that no one feeds your dog from the buffet. And please, no other dogs at the event — your pup should be the star guest.
10. Capture a special memory of their day
Your wedding day will fly by, but the photos will last forever. Ask your photographer to dedicate a few shots just to your dog — with you, in their little tuxedo, or simply watching from afar. Those will be the most genuine and touching memories: your love, right there, with a wagging tail.

The Tailor’s Tip: Harness or Ceremony Collar?
When you ask me to create a custom accessory for your dog, the first thing I want to know isn’t the color, but their personality and habits.
I need to know whether they’re used to wearing a collar or a harness — and which model — so I can recommend the most comfortable and suitable accessory.
A lively dog who’s used to harnesses will feel better in a practical, lightweight design, while a calmer dog can elegantly wear a collar with a bow tie.
Here I explain in detail when to choose a collar or a harness for your wedding day.
